Here’s what you need to do to sign up:
- Order a SIM and within 5-7 days you’ll get your free SIM card and login details
- Activate it via the website or My48 app for your free 1GB
- Buy a membership and pay the activation fee if you want to stay with 48
When you sign up with 48, you can keep your existing mobile number or select a new one. There’s a simple step by step guide to show you how to do this once you have signed up.
How do you top up with 48?
You’ll need to log in to My48 and select the membership of your choice. For new customers, auto-renew is on by default, but you can turn this off in My Profile under Payment Details. You can also choose to stack memberships when you buy your membership.

You’ll need a 5G device, the €12.99 5G plan, and 5G coverage in your area. 4G is included with all other 48 plans.

48 uses Three, one of Ireland’s leading mobile networks.Three has 99% 4G coverage nationwide and 90% 5G population coverage.
Does 48 have a fair usage policy?
Yes. Although 48 states that their prepay Sim-only deal has unlimited calls and texts, you’re restricted to the following fair usage limits:
- 5,000 minutes per month
- 5,000 texts per month
Full details about any other restrictions e.g. the numbers you can call and text and where you can call and text from, are detailed in their price plan.
If you make calls and texts outside of the fair usage limits, you’ll be charged at the applicable charge rate.
Does my phone need to be unlocked?
